Linda Laatsch MLT-MLS Bridge Scholarship

Two MLT-to-MLS Bridge Scholarships are available each year. This scholarship supports Wisconsin-based Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLTs) who are advancing their careers by enrolling in a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Bridge Program. This $1,500 award can be used for tuition, books, certification exam fees, or clinical practicum expenses.

Applications will be accepted starting September 15th until the application deadline of November 15th . Applicants must be ASCLS-WI members for at least 2 years, residents of Wisconsin, work as an MLT at least 0.8 FTE, hold MLT certification, be enrolled in an MLT-to-MLS bridge program for at least 1 semester, and demonstrate academic achievement along with commitment to working in clinical laboratory science for at least 18 months post-graduation.

This scholarship is named in honor of a member who has contributed significantly to the society and profession. Linda Laatsch, Ph.D., MT(ASCP)SM graduated from UWM in 1973 with a B.S. in Medical Technology, earned a Masters in Health Care Education in 1979 from Central Michigan University, and a Ph.D. in Education from Marquette University in 2000.

Linda began her career specializing in microbiology at Mt. Sinai Medical Center Laboratory in Milwaukee. She spent most of her career (38 years) as a faculty member of the Clinical Laboratory Science Department at Marquette University where in 2007 she was one of 3 university faculty honored with a Teaching Excellence Award. Since 1973, Linda has been an active member of ASCLS and ASCLS-WI, serving in many capacities at the local, state, and national levels. She was ASCLS-WI President in 2005-06 and has been on the Scholarship Fund board since 2004, serving as Chairperson since 2009.
